Within the Royal Hospital In-Pensioners are given every opportunity to lead a full and active life.There is an In-Pensioners' Social Centre with comfortable lounges and bars where a range of newspapers and magazines are always available. Entertainments take place regularly such as Bingo, Whist and musical performances.
A well equipped handicraft centre enables In-Pensioners to pursue hobbies such as carpentry, painting, carving, model-making and so on. There is a well stocked library which includes many books in large print for those who need this and also houses a large video and DVD collection.
The Royal Hospital has extensive grounds where In-Pensioners can walk and relax in peace and quiet. There are also bowling and putting greens for the sole use of the In-Pensioners and allotments for those with green fingers. The Royal Hospital has its own Bowls team and frequent matches are arranged with outside teams during the season.
The Royal Hospital also has a thriving and popular band which comprises of full time ex-Army musicians and In-Pensioners. The band gives In-Pensioner musicians the opportunity to meet up on a regular basis, rehearse and perform concerts for the benefit of the other In-Pensioners. The band is always looking for new In-Pensioners who wish to continue their musical career.
