Social Life

social-bench.jpgWithin the Royal Hospital In-Pensioners are given every opportunity to have a full active life. There is an In-Pensioners' Club with two comfortable lounges and two bars where a range of newspapers and magazines is always available. Entertainments take place regularly whilst adjoining the Club is a billiards room with two full sized tables.

There is a social centre, the Prince of Wales Hall, where In-Pensioners can take their friends or relatives for light refreshments and enjoy sitting in a walled garden.

A well equipped handicraft centre enables In-Pensioners to pursue hobbies such as carpentry, painting, carving, model making and so on. The products of the handicraft centre can be sold, providing In-Pensioners with additional pocket money.

There is also a Royal Hospital Museum illustrating its long history and containing a fine collection of medals of past In-Pensioners.

The Hospital has grounds with first class bowling and putting greens and garden allotments for those who wish to have them. Many of the In-Pensioners are bowls enthusiasts, and frequent matches are arranged with outside teams during the season.

The band gives the In-Pensioner musicians the opportunity to meet on a regular basis, make music and perform concerts for the benefit of the other In-Pensioners. The band is always looking for new In Pensioners arriving who wish to continue their musical career.
