The Royal Hospital Chelsea is a magnificent backdrop for The RHC Concerts. This year's series, again showcasing the talents of both internationally renowned musicians and also young musicians at the start of their careers, not only welcomes the acclaimed clarinettist Emma Johnson accompanied by pianist John Lenehan making their first appearance for the series in the State Apartments, but also sees the return of the breathtaking Boyan Ensemble of Kiev who performed to a capacity audience in The Chapel in 2007.
The RHC Concerts support the upkeep of The Royal Hospital Chelsea and its famous In-Pensioners - The Chelsea Pensioners' - and has contributed over £20,000 to the Chelsea Pensioners' Appeal.
The RHC Concerts offer a wonderful opportunity to hear music presented in the intimate setting of The Council Chamber in The State Apartments - a sumptuous oak-panelled room designed by Sir Christopher Wren - and also within the magnificent Chapel which dates back to 1687 and is renowned for its fine acoustic.

18th November - Boyan Ensemble of KievMaestro Bohdan Antkiv music director
Yuriy & Volodymyr Kuratch conductors
Valentina Ivanenko soprano soloist
"Among the many qualities which make this choir supreme in its field is - first of all - its vast range of dynamics extending from the most alive pianissimos to breathtakingly-brilliant fortes ... Perfect intonation coupled with an apparently seamless and expressive legato."
The Boyan Ensemble, described as "a musical sensation" on their first visit to the UK, perform chants from the Eastern Orthodox Church all sung a cappella in the first half of the programme. After the interval, and dressed in national costume, the choir present songs from Ukraine's rich folk heritage, ranging from the exuberant to the soulful. The Ensemble's members are drawn from Ukraine's top professional male choir: the Revutsky State Male Choir based in Kyiv (Kiev). A single female voice breaks the exclusive maleness and adds the unique element that distinguishes this much acclaimed choir.
