17th August 2017
Chelsea Pensioner Mike Smith, 68, has taken to the skies for his first jump in 23 years.
Proving that age should not be a barrier to achieving your goals, Mike Smith performed the jump at Old Sarum Airfield near Salisbury last week. The acheivement was made extra special as he was joined by two World War Two veterans, Fred Glover and Ted Pieri, both 91.
"I was extremely nervous but excited too! Once I was in freefall, it was amazing," explained Mike. "I did it because I wanted to raise money for chairty - for the Black Cab charity, who partner frequently with the Royal Hospital Chelsea, taking Chelsea Pensioners on trip throughtout the year."
"Being a Chelsea Pensioner at the Royal Hospital Chelsea hasd really opened up my outlook on life. I've been able to do more in the 18 months that I've lived here, than I did in the 18 years prior."
