Chelsea Pensioner Roy Palmer has become the Royal Hospital’s first Herald. Roy, who was town crier for Mablethorpe in Lincolnshire before he became a Chelsea Pensioner, says he was keen to fulfil a similar role for his new home.
Thursday 6th June 2019 marks the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, France. The Battle of Normandy lasted from June 1944 to August 1944 and was pivotal in securing the Allied liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Germany’s control.
On the Royal Hospital’s south grounds the D-Day 75 Garden stands as an ephemeral and touching reminder of the sacrifice made by so many on the shores of Normandy on the 6th June 1944.
