The Luna Cinema at the Royal Hospital

18th August 2020

This summer we are delighted to announce that, for the first time, the Luna Cinema will take up residency in our South Grounds*. Tickets are now on sale to enjoy an outdoor, socially distanced, cinema experience over two weeks from the 25th of August.

You'll be able to get swept up in the romance of Casablanca and Romeo + Juliet, stamp your feet along to Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star is Born, sing along to The Greatest Showman and Grease, or go on an epic adventure with Jurassic Park and Back to the Future. You can also catch recent big hitters including 1917, Joker, Knives Out and Jo Jo Rabbit.

The team at Luna Cinema have worked closely with our Facilities department and health and safety consultants to ensure the event will be safe during the current circumstances. Every audience member will be given a seated pitch, laid out for up to two or four people, keeping you safely apart from your fellow audience members. So you can attend any Luna screening safe in the knowledge it will adhere to government guidance.  You will also be able to pre-order delicious gourmet hampers to enjoy while watching your favourite movie, including traditional picnic fayre, vegetarian options and even a sushi platter.

Sadly, the Royal Hospital’s main site (where the Pensioners’ accommodation is situated) is still closed to the public in order to safeguard our nation's Veterans. The South Grounds are separate from the main site and guests will enter via a gate that will not compromise the safety of the Chelsea Pensioners. The South Grounds have been open throughout the pandemic to ensure the local community have had access to exercise at a social distance. As ever, the welfare and safety of our Pensioners is the Hospital’s main priority.

For a full list of movies showing and dates, please check the Luna Cinema website for more details and to book tickets.

We hope you can attend and we hope to open the Royal Hospital to the public once again when it is safe to do so.
