The contributions you’ll make will not only bring you a host of benefits, they also provide vital income that we depend on to fund our work.

Membership starts from as little as £35 a year and every penny helps to care for the Chelsea Pensioners, who were prepared to sacrifice so much for our Nation.

  • Five tickets to attend the traditional Governor's Review ceremony. Held in honour of King Charles II, founder of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, this unmissable military highlight is followed by a drinks reception in the Governor’s Marquee.

Join the Governor's Circle

Our Governor's Circle members play a key role in supporting our unique veteran community and safeguarding the exceptional care and comradeship the Royal Hospital offers for future generations of Chelsea Pensioners. 

As a member you will enjoy closer involvement with the Royal Hospital and the wider military community, as well as exclusive access to our leadership and events programme. 

Governor’s Circle members enjoy all the benefits of a regular Friends membership, but are also welcomed to three very special occasions in the Royal Hospital's calendar: 

  • Our prestigious Founder's Day parade held each summer to commemorate King Charles II who established the Royal Hospital in 1692. The event is attended by a member of the Royal Family who inspects the Chelsea Pensioners and delivers a speech. 
  • The world-famous Chelsea Flower Show. This sought-after invitation entitles the member to a reception and private view of this celebration of horticulture and highlight of the London social calendar. 
  • Our exclusive annual Gala Dinner. A member and guest will dine in the Royal Hospital’s historic Great Hall alongside dignitaries and Chelsea Pensioners.

Brompton Cemetery Seed Sowing
Sowing wildflowers in memory of past Chelsea Pensioners

On 6 May, Chelsea Pensioners and members of the Royal Hospital’s grounds team joined representatives from the Royal Parks, the Royal Parks Guild and the Friends of Brompton Cemetery to sow a patch of wildflower seeds in Brompton Cemetery as part of the Battlefields and Butterflies initiative.

Chelsea Pensioner Centenarians
100 years old and still going strong

Recent research backs up the anecdote that Chelsea Pensioners not only live considerably longer than their peers outside (by over five years, on average), but that their lifetimes once they come to the Royal Hospital are extending, year on year. This strongly suggests that the care and community here contribute to greater longevity – as well as improving quality of life.
