Contrary to popular belief, the Royal Hospital Chelsea is neither owned by the government, nor by the army.
It is an independent charity whose core aim is to provide a long-term home for veterans who may otherwise face an old-age marred by loneliness and isolation. To cover day-to-day running costs, and in order to provide 21st century care and accommodation for the Chelsea Pensioners, the Royal Hospital relies on donations from its supporters.
If you would like to help repay the nation's debt to these men and women in their old age, why not consider becoming a Friend of the Royal Hospital Chelsea? Membership starts from as little as £40 per year for Silver Friends and offers a range of benefits including invitations to Friends' events throughout the year, plus priority bookings for concerts.
As a Silver Friend you will be invited to a number of special occasions which form an integral part of our annual calendar. These include:
As a Gold Friend, you'll be entitled to all the benefits of Silver membership, but in addition you will receive special membership of The Sloane Club. Originally a club for serving and former lady officers of World War II, this elegant and comfortable Chelsea townhouse opened it doors to gentlemen in the 1970s. Offering luxurious bedrooms, plus a dining room and bar, The Sloane Club provides the perfect place to stay after an event at the Royal Hospital.
Our Platinum Friends enjoy all the benefits of Gold and Silver membership, but are also welcomed to two very special occasions in the Royal Hospital's calendar. The first is our prestigious Founder's Day parade held annually to commemorate the generosity and vision of King Charles II and where the Chelsea Pensioners are inspected by a member of the Royal Family.
The second sought after invitation is to a reception and private viewing of the world famous Chelsea Flower Show, a celebration of the highest quality horticulture.
