Join us at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in our glorious State Apartments for a lecture and drinks reception as part of our Governor's Lecture Series.

The English Civil Wars were a time of terrible conflict. In England and Wales alone, a greater proportion of the population died in the Civil Wars than in the First World War. For those who survived, thousands suffered from terrible injuries whilst wives, children and other family members faced daily struggles as a result of bereavement.

This illustrated lecture by Professor Andrew Hopper and Dr Ismini Pells (University of Oxford) will present the findings of The Civil War Petitions Project - a collection of over three thousand petitions to the state for financial relief, made by or on behalf of wounded soldiers, war widows and orphans during and after the British Civil Wars.
