Last week, members of the Chelsea Pensioners Fishing Club gathered to mark the end of the season and enjoy a small awards ceremony organised by the club’s organiser, Chelsea Pensioner Peter Turner. 

Archie Ferguson joined the Royal Hospital Chelsea in June 2022 and has spent his first year here transforming a once desolate outside space into a magical retreat. Much loved by his fellow Chelsea Pensioners and Royal Hospital staff alike, it is also known as the Secret Garden

The Chelsea Pensioners’ pottery club is celebrating its 10-year anniversary. The group doesn’t just provide a forum to learn or develop a skill, it’s also a creative outlet, a therapeutic pastime and an opportunity to enjoy comradeship and mutual support 

The Soldiers’ Arts Academy links serving and veteran Army personnel and their families with professionals from the creative arts. Through a range of workshops, projects and productions they give participants the opportunity to discover new interests, recover from difficult experiences, transition into civilian life and even find new careers. 

World Mental Health Day is on October 10 and this year it feels more important than ever to recognise that it’s not just our physical health that’s important.  The COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown has had a huge impact on us all. And the Chelsea Pensioners are no exception.

Here at the Royal Hospital, we’ve long observed the benefits that taking part in activities has on the Chelsea Pensioners. Evidence from medical professionals increasingly supports our view that having interests improves physical and mental wellbeing and combats isolation.

The Forgotten War

This year marks the 70th anniverasry since the fighting of the Korean War ended. Here at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, we want to remember the countless individuals that were impacted by the Korean war; and to do so, a few of our Korean Veterans shared their experiences with us.
