Today, the Government of South Australia and the South Australian Branch of the Returned and Services League of South Australia (RSL) celebrated the annual Christmas Cake Ceremony with the Chelsea Pensioners. 

A festive tradition dating back to the opening of the Royal Hospital in 1692 – today Dairy UK donated over 270kg of British cheeses to the Chelsea Pensioners to tide them over the festive period.

The Christmas period officially got underway today at the Royal Hospital, as the Chelsea Pensioners took part in the tradition of stirring in the ingredients for the Christmas pudding.

Care staff of the Margaret Thatcher Infirmary (MTI) receive the nationally recognised Care Certificate and celebrate their success with a ceremony at the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

Alan joined the army as a boy soldier aged just 14 years of age. Initially based in Cardiff; Alan moved to Belfast where he quickly established himself as a personal fitness instructor. In July 1944, having become old enough to join the regular Army, he transferred to the Army Air Corps as a paratrooper and went on to fight during the height of WWII - deep behind enemy lines in Germany.

The Chelsea Pensioners were the guests of honour last week at a photography exhibition which showcased photos taken by the Pensioners during a course held at the Royal Hospital Chelsea earlier this month.

The UK's current best-selling author invites Chelsea Pensioners and their grandchildren to the launch of his latest book, The Ice Monster, which includes a very special scene with a Chelsea Pensioner at the Royal Hospital. 

The Christmas Season in Sloane Square kicked off on Saturday 17th November with a festive family event, marked by the Chelsea Pensioners choir, before the Christmas lights were switched on.
